District Ministries - Cross-Cultural Ministries
Joel_Smith_2011Joel and Heidi Smith have recently moved to Connell, Washington, in order to work closely with Pastors Paul and Alyssa Clark in the area of Hispanic outreach.  Joel served as a self-supporting missionary in Honduras in the area of Work and Witness coordination for a number of years. He met Heidi while in Honduras, they were eventually married and now have two cute little “missionary children.”

After serving in Honduras, Joel and Heidi were contracted to coordinate Work and Witness teams in Peru.  However, due to recent World Mission Division financial challenges, they had to return to the States in 2010.  Joel had restarted his roofing business in Northern Idaho after returning from the mission field.  However, still feeling the call to missionary service, he and his family have moved to Connell with the vision of raising a Spanish-Speaking congregation.  Joel is now enrolled in the Northwest District’s Course of Ministerial Studies, which is a program designed by Nazarene Clergy Development for the equipping of pastors.

Joel and Heidi are making contacts within the community, starting a Spanish-speaking Sunday School class with the vision of developing leadership to begin Spanish-speaking cell groups. As the group grows, they plan to begin to hold worship services.

It is an exciting thing to see people who know they are on the mission field right here in the Northwest and are willing to step up to the challenges.  We know that the alliance between the Connell Church of the Nazarene and this missionary effort will be a blessing for many people.
